Project Summaries for Solid Waste Incineration Facilities
Client: Regional Waste Facility – Emission Source: Solid Waste Incinerator
AirNova, Inc. conducted an emission testing program on a scrubber system which serves as the pollution control device for a waste incineration system located in Vermont. The test program included testing for toxic metals, such as As, Be, Cd, Cr, Pb, Hg, Ni, and Zn, PCDD’s and PCDF’s, sulfur oxides, particulate matter and hydrogen chloride.
Client: Regional Medical Center – Emission Source: Medical Waste Incinerator
AirNova, Inc. conducted a test program which determined the removal efficiency of toxic metals such as As, Be, Cd, Cr, Pb, Hg, Ni, and Zn, hydrogen chloride, particulate matter, sulfur oxides, hydrogen chloride and PCDD’s and PCDF’s by a scrubber system which served as the pollution control device for a medical waste incinerator.
Client: Wastewater Treatment Plant – Emission Source: Sludge Incinerator
AirNova, Inc. conducted several compliance test programs to determine the emissions of particulate matter and toxic metals including As, Be, Cd, Cr, Pb, Hg, Ni, and Zn, from two sludge incineration systems controlled by spray tower scrubbers.
Client: Community Hospital – Emission Source: Medical Waste Incinerator
AirNova, Inc. conducted a compliance test program on a medical waste incineration system controlled by a venturi and packed bed scrubber system. Emission sampling was conducted for toxic metals including As, Be, hexavalent chromium, Cd, Pb, Hg, and Ni, as well as PCDD’s and PCDF’s, particulate matter and hydrogen chloride.
In addition, AirNova, Inc. also conducted a performance specification test (PST) for a CEM system monitoring CO and O2 emissions from the incinerator.
Client: Combustion Research Facility – Emission Source: Pilot Combustor
A fluid-bed combustor was evaluated while a cellulose fiber/pulverized coal mixture was fired to the unit. Emission sampling was performed in determination of dioxins and furans, polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons and toxic metals. Baseline evaluations were also conducted while firing pulverized coal only.
Client: Pharmaceutical Facility – Emision Source: Solid Waste Incinerator
A test program was conducted for a solid waste incinerator at a pharmaceutical facility to demonstrate compliance with the permitted emission rates. Sampling was conducted in determination of particulate matter, sulfur oxides, hydrogen chloride, non-methane hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxide.
Client: Various Medical Facilities – Emission Source: Microwave Sterilizer Units
AirNova, Inc. conducted emission compliance test programs for five [5] medical facilities located throughout New Jersey. Sampling was conducted at the outlet of medical waste treatment devices utilizing microwave radiation. Emission determinations were conducted for pathogenic organisms, toxic volatile organic compounds, total volatile organic compounds and particulate. Test methods included the EPA Draft Surrogate Pathogen Method, Compendium Method TO-14 and EPA Methods 5 and 25A.
